Workamping As A Lifestyle

RV fulltimers have discovered an adventurous lifestyle that allows them to save, and even earn money in these trying economic times.  It’s called workamping.  If you want, or need, to maximize your income to supplement your RV lifestyle, this program is worth the time to investigate.

Whether its part time or full time, there are jobs available out there that allow you to save and/or make money.  The concept is really quite simple.  You stay at a park or campground for a “season” (winter or summer, depending on location) working for a limited number of hours, and in return you can get your full hook up space for free, and sometimes get paid for any extra hours.  Some parks even pay for all your hours worked.  There are various options for work/pay or work only offered at different parks.  Part time, full time, short term or long term, there is something for everyone.

It’s a win-win situation.  The parks/campgrounds get the help they need and you get to stay in lots of neat places without a whole lot of effort.  Most jobs require only 3 or 4 days a week to put in your hours, which usually don’t take up your whole day, and the rest of the time is yours.

The duties are varied…work in the office taking reservations; store clerking (if there’s a store); cleaning, which can include restrooms/showers or cabins; maintenance can include plumbing, electrical, minor repairs; pool cleaning; landscaping; activities; cooking and/or serving meals…the options are all up to you as to how much or how little you want to sign on to do.  Not all parks have all these requirements; some have full time staff to handle certain jobs.  There are so many unique jobs available out there that there is no reason to be bored.

OK, now that we know this is an option, how do we find out where the jobs are?  Wait no longer, we have the answer.   There is an organization dedicated to helping you find just the perfect job for you, and their resources are invaluable to the prospective Workamper.

Here you can create a resume to post on their website that prospective employers can view and contact you if interested.  But you can be proactive and send your resume out directly to parks & campgrounds.  They also have wonderful tips on preparing that Awesome Resume that will help you get hired.

There is a forum that allows comments to be posted by Workampers regarding their experiences at parks & campgrounds…be they positive, negative, or just informational, which is invaluable in deciding to work, or even apply for work, at a park/campground.

Their Hotline lists current “hot” jobs daily and you can have them emailed to you as they are posted, with the complete daily list emailed at the end of the day.

The bi-monthly online Workamper News Magazine also lists job openings along with some very helpful articles and information.

There is a huge selection of books, CDs, and other merchandise in the Workamper News Store that is invaluable to your research for your RV lifestyle.
